The Plutonium Files EXPOSED!
These kids had no idea what they were signing up for…
In the 1940’s and 50s, boys from the Fernald School for the Feebly Minded were given an opportunity to join a new science club.
All the boys wanted to join, but just over 100 were accepted. Over the next few years, the new teachers, who looked a lot like scientists, took care of the boys. They took them in for check ups, they were given their shots, and even made sure they had breakfast every day.
It wasn’t until 40 years later, these boys found out they were part of the project known as the Plutonium files.
Turns out, the teachers were MIT scientists, the shots they were given were for nuclear radiation testing. And their hearty breakfast of oatmeal, provided by Quaker, was laced with radioactive isotopes to track the absorption of heavy elements over time.
It wasn’t until President Clinton changed a policy in 1993, that any of these human radiation experiments were brought to light.
